Center Of The Universe (extended version) ?!?! |
Lead | |
|
Has anyone that has seen BTS recently noticed their extended version of Center Of The Universe? Doug adds a few minutes to the end and just jams and it's
@%$!$@$ awesome! I'm looking for a tab of that last part! Can anyone please tab it out so that we can all have the pleasure of playing it in on our shitty
guitars in our small, shitty rooms? Here is a link to that song that I filmed live a while back. The extra part to the song starts around 3:00 (sorry for the
shakiness) http://www.youtube.com/wa...XK4&feature=channel_page

Wow. That was incredible. I wonder if that was just a jam added on or the intentional conclusion to Center of the Universe. If the latter, I' LOVE to hear
the recording with that added on.
I am constantly impressed by Built to Spill. |

Ya, they've been doing that extra outro for a while. There are better quality versions on youtube too.

here's the best version i've seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MflvNUQi3V4
I might tab it out later, but there's a better view of the fret board. There was talk about audio/video recording of recent tours, maybe that ending was tailored for a future live album. Time Trap would be also be great company |

Man, that's great! I love it. Built to Spill has the best outros. I'm 100% behind them messing around with their songs and adding things like that, it
makes it so much more fun seeing them live.

Here, I just tabbed it out:
So Doug is doing: e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------0-----------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|-----5h6-------------------------------------------------------------------| A|--7-7----------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Which then becomes e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|-------------------------4-------------------------------------------------------| D|---------6------------------6---------------------------------------------------| A|-7----7-----7-----7---7-----------------------------------------------------| E|-0----0-----------0---0-------------------------------------------------------| Jim and Doug both kind of play the same parts here. Maybe Doug just strums the bottom of the E chord while Jim plays the simple melody. Unclear. Then to start off the outro, Doug does e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|--11p9-11p9-11p9-7--7---9--------------------------------------------------| E|--9----9----9----5--5---7-------------------------------------------------------| Then: e|-----------------| B|-----------------| G|--4---4-4--------| D|--6---6-6--------| A|--7---7-7--------| E|--0---0-0--------| e|--------------------------------| B|--------------------------------| G|--------------------------------| D|--------------------------------| A|--11p9-11p9-11p9-7--7---9-------| E|--9----9----9----5--5---7-------| Or, every so often: e|--------------------------| B|--------------------------| G|--4---4-13--9-------------| D|--6---6-x---x-------------| A|--7---7-11--7-------------| E|--0---0-0---0-------------| e|--------------------------------| B|--------------------------------| G|--------------------------------| D|--------------------------------| A|--11p9-11p9-11p9-7--7---9-------| E|--9----9----9----5--5---7-------| Jim and Doug's parts still stay very similar, until this more complicated part: Doug: e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|-14p13-13-14p13-13-14------------------------------------------------------| A|-12-12-12-12-12-12-12----14p13-13-14p13-13-14----11p9-9-11p9-11h9-11-11-11-| E|-12-12-12-12-12-12-12----12-12-12-12-12-12-12----9--9-9-9--9-9----9--9--9--| e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|-14p13-13-14p13-13-14------------------------------------------------------| A|-12-12-12-12-12-12-12----14p13-13-14p13-13-14----11p9-9-11p9-11--7-7--9----| E|-12-12-12-12-12-12-12----12-12-12-12-12-12-12----9--9-9-9--9-9---5-5--7----| Jim: e|--16-14p12--------------------16-14p12-----------12------------------------| B|-----------9h10h12-9h10h12-------------9h10h12-9---------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| So yeah, that's the basic jist. |

Hang on guys, check out the official song again. At the last 10 seconds, turn up your volume (headphones would probably work best) I can totally hear this
outro starting.

Yeah, I've noticed that too, hitfactory. I'm pretty sure they recorded the outro, and then took it out later. It coincides with several Doug interviews
from around the time of Keep it Like a Secret where he talked about songs they cut down because he felt they needed to be shorter. I'd love to hear the
complete version some time; I'm sure its lying around somewhere.

aw too bad they didn't include it on those vinyl reissues; maybe years from now on cd deluxe reissues?

Yeah, the original ending was cut. I first heard it live in 2003 and Doug said something about it being brought back.
