Get cozy 'cause this is going to be a long ride.

I did not like PFNO at first. See, I used to strictly listen to pop music most of my life, not by choice, but because I was a slave to local radio stations who played the same songs over and over again. Only in the last 4 years have I begun to choose and listen to artists who were not so much in the public eye. Due to this fact, when I was introduced to BTS, I was drawn more to the poppy sounding tracks that they have released (The Plan, Big Dipper, Fly Around...etc).

PFNO eventually grew on me song by song. I just kept it in my car stereo and listened to it over and over again. Giving myself to each song until I found myself in each track.

At first, it was Made up Dreams. I loved the lyrics "No one wants to hear, what you dreamt about, unless you dreamt about, them. Don't let that stop you. Tell them anyway, you can make it up, as you...go." It's historically been unusual for me to be drawn to songs for their lyrical content as much as their sound, but this one line in particular affected me for personal reasons. I hate people who ignore or don't listen to what you are saying if it's not important to them...especially those who are your friends, or family. It's aggravating as hell!

Then it was Hurt a Fly. I really liked the lazy droning sound of the guitar and cello parts. It's a really fun song to listen to while tripping because the songs makes me physically feel floaty and distorted all at the same time. Then when it rocks out during the last section of the song, the sonic blast from every direction makes me nod my head or move some other part of my body in this free, and uninhibited way.

I don't remember the order after that, but here are my feelings on the rest.

Randy, I feel, kind of represents the name of the band in a way. It builds and spills all over the place, then builds and spills again. There are many BTS songs that I feel do the same thing. I also like the repetitiveness of the last section of the song because they don't let it get old, it's just the right length.

Stop the show is just an awesomely rockin' song, but I really like how the beat just seems to change out of nowhere at the end of the song with what seems like just some spliced in section they threw in at the last minute or forgot to take out, but in a way, it fits. Also the drum parts are perfect....from now on (womp womp).

Velvet Waltz has some of the best 3 part guitar of all the BTS songs, and I mean c'mon people, isn't that why many of us listen to them? 'Nuff said. The parts go together, but don't at the same time. There is so much...noise, but it's comforting, or pleasing in a weird way. You can really get lost in this song. Especially when listening to it with noise canceling headphones on. Try it.

Out of Sight is pretty cool. I mean, I like it, but I never found it to really be that special. It's a pretty rockin' song, but it's just doesn't do much for me.

Kicked it In The Sun reminds me of the beach for some reason; it's cute. I just want to lay in a hammock and listen to this song while staring at the ocean waves cresting, breaking and crashing unto itself with my girlfriend next to me drinking Pina Coladas. I guess the constant chanting of the title evokes this feeling. I also love the key change a little more than halfway through the song. Freddie Mercury said that key changes really make a song more interesting, as he is right on the nose. My ears perk up at this part and the song takes on a completely different mood from here to the end. It's at this point where the sun has gone down and we are dancing around a campfire that has been built (hopefully not the spill...I know, LAME, but I can't help myself) on the sand.

Untrustable, was definitely the last song that I gave a shot to steal my heart. I avoided it because I have not been a very trustworthy person and the song made me feel kind of bad about myself. More recently in my life, I have learned to respect others more than I have done so in the past. It's still incredibly tough for me to not be like the people mentioned in Made-Up dreams, but despite that I am now a person that can be trusted, and my GF is much pleased about this. Anyways, I like this song because I feel it completes this album perfectly, and it is one the quintessential BTS songs. It encompasses all the sounds from the rest of the songs on this album from the hard rockin' of Out of Site, and Stop the Show, the laziness of Velvet Waltz and Hurt A Fly, the character conveyed in Made Up Dreams, and finally the crescendo of "in your face" pounding of one or two chords over and over like in Randy, until the very sudden but appropriate ending.

Doug and the rest of the guys are really good at coming up with these great 3 part guitar lines that by themselves are so simple, but when combined, create this web of sound that makes the songs everlasting. I still hear something new in their songs every now and then, that I didn't catch before which is refreshing. It's the reason I have been able to listen to them on a regular basis since learning of them 4 years ago. Pop music RARELY does this for me. In my somewhat newly formed opinion, pop music is like cocaine. It's great for a quick pick me up, it gets the job done, and it can even make YOU popular, but expose yourself to it too much and you get sucked in. Eventually, it won't have the same effect it once had on you and, by then have missed out on what is really worth being a part of, that which is insightful, meaningful, and fulfilling.
