The earliest recorded show I know of was from late 1993 at the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle... probably 11/15/93, though some recordings are dated 10/15. I wish some more pre-97 stuff would turn up, I know it's out there...
And am I missing something? I don't see anything from 96 at that link... the undated show there's from NYC in 2001... they started doing that Smiths cover right after the WTC disaster. Weird recording too, sounds like there's four Delusions songs dropped in the middle of it for some reason. |

Chicago, Empty Bottle 10/94 | ||
|
I have a tape from the Empty Bottle Show on 10/00/1994 in Chicago. A friend of mine and I went to it - crappy cold blustery night. B2S was opening for House of Large Sizes - there were maybe 20-25 people in the whole bar.
One of these days I'll transfer the tape to FLAC for everyone to enjoy. Great show, mostly stuff from their UAW and TNWWL with a couple of very early versions of songs from PFNO. |

Didn't get House of Large Sizes that night. Showed up at the tail end of their set.

Aricher, that'd be SO great
And, like I'm incessantly asking everyone, when you get it transferred to FLAC please get it (and any other BtS stuff) on a torrent site like thepiratebay or something similar. |

Hey Aricher, still here?
That would be like the third or fourth oldest Built to Spill recording in existence, as far as we know, and a pretty cool thing to hear... so if you have a minute, it would sure be appreciated if you could spread it around some! If you're short on time (I know how that goes) I'm sure there are people around who'd be happy to lend a hand... |

I have been a fan for years and want to start hosting some shows online for people. If any of you have some great sounding shows that are not available, please
get in touch with me at zachcrawford(at)gmail(dot)com so I can get them up.

Yeah, I'm still here. I'll be hooking the tape deck up to the computer over the next few weeks to dump some old archives. I'll post here when the
Empty Bottle show is available.

Yes, thanks a lot. I would love to hear it.
Actually, someone put up a pretty entertaining show from '97 on dimeadozen over the weekend. It was an afternoon show at UCLA. It can be found at http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=182154

I don't know if I can find it, because I've been looking through some old stuff at my parents house for it, but I don't have a live show, but I do
(possibly DID) have a demo tape of "Farm Days" which was Doug's punk band. I bought it from them at a show in Twin Falls around 1986 or 87....My
mom's from Kimberly, Idaho (a mile or two outside Twin Falls).....the Urie family!!!!! I'm from Vegas and we were there visiting my grandparents, and
heard about a show with the Descendents and some Idaho bands...the Descendents didn't show up, but Farm Days opened up for a Boise band called The
Grind....its pretty cool because I had no idea that Farm Days was Doug's band until recently....or I wouldn't have misplaced that damn tape. I like
that Farm Days tape....I loved the Treepeople, loved State of Confusion, etc...just had no idea that they were all somehow connected to Built to
Spill.....crazy....but I digress...I'll look for the tape

that would be very cool to hear. I hope you're able to find it. I'm seeing BTS tonight and am on cloud nine. Calvin Johnson happens to be in town
tonight on a seperate tour and I'm just crossing my fingers that we might be lucky enough to get some type of cameo appearance. Let us know if you find
that tape.

Hey aricher... if you're too busy to get to the whole flac transfer/bit torrent thing in the near future, would you consider taking a minute to type out
the setlist for bts.23.com? Pre-'97 concert info is like gold for the site... get in touch with me (mark@23.com) if there's any way I can help.
Then again, if you can't be arsed (as I've learned to say in Dublin) that's OK too, the fate of the Earth doesn't hang on it. |

aricher wrote:Dude. Take a few minutes and upload this !!%!. Depending on when they played Philly in 94, this is either the fourth or fifth oldest live recording of BTS known to exist... this is no joke. We'll carry you around the block on our shoulders and ply you with weed and beer. PS: I just found the Chicago Shows List archive, which confirmed the gig was 10/9/94. God damn, we used to have some awesome gigs in the early '90s... http://petdance.com/csl/?940929 I'll bet Doug doesn't even remember if they played the Khyber Pass before or after Chicago. |

It's been a long time since I visited. My wife & I had a son who is now 13 months old - been a little busy. I PROMISE I will get the Empty Bottle show
dumped to a tape soon. Sorry for the delay, slipped my mind in a sleepless fatherhood haze.

The oldest show I ever heard was a boot of The OK hotel in Seattle, which also featured Halo Benders and Butterfly Train. I think it was late in 94 right after
"there's nothing" came out. I found it on one of those indiepop live websites a few years ago. I was really excited to hear it because I went to
the show but it was sold out, it was definitely THE show to be at if you were young, in Seattle and hip to Doug.
I finally got to see them a few month later at "the old shipyard" or some place with a name that reminded me of sailors. It was awesome. The had a cellist playing "fling", Jon Auer from the Posies turned to me and said "Can you believe how great this guy is?", and they freaking rocked. Heatmiser opened for them that night. Would love to hear a boot of it. |
